November 22nd Observatory Open House:
I did not really expect anyone to come to open house due to an unbroken overcast, but a new member, Kathy Redd, arrived shortly after I did; around 6pm. I had figured I’d have time alone to check out the computer work that Dave walton had done Friday, but it was great to have some company.
We enjoyed about a half hour of clearing! A large hole in the overcast sky gave us a good view of Jupiter and the 6-day old moon. The fine showpiece craters Theophilus, Cyrillus, and Catharina were well set up for comparison. Afterwards we both looked over the computer programing enhancements Dave had done. Good work, Dave! By 8pm the cloud deck was pretty solid so we closed up shop. Our evening was not a total loss by any measure.
