This is an update to an earlier post about reading astronomy magazines for free.
You may be aware that you can read books online from your local library, but you may not know that you can also read a few astronomy magazines as well. And many more. It took me a while to figure out how to do it, so take advantage of this article, and save yourself some money.
If you’re familiar with Overdrive or Libby, you may already be using them to read books online. But you won’t find magazines in either app. Until a recently, you would go to the Library of Virginia website to read magazines, but that has now changed to using an app called Magzter. To qualify to access magazines though, you have to have to be a member of your local library. Or physically go downtown to sign up at the Library of Virginia. Once you have a local library card though, you can start reading magazines through Magzter.
Here are the steps:
- Get a library card from your local library.
- In a browser, go to https://library.magzter.com, and sign in your library card ID or email address. You’ll find Sky at Night, and a few other science base magazines, but no Sky&Tel nor Astronomy.
