Updates on Upcoming Events

Live NASA downlink from the International Space Station, July 5: The Science Museum has requested a few RAS volunteers to do astro activities at SMV on Thursday, July 5 in conjunction with a live NASA downlink from ISS. The Museum needs volunteers from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM.  Might be good to arrive a bit before 8:30 AM to make sure they have enough help.  Please contact Jim Browder at president@richastro.org if you can help out with this event.  We need to let the Musuem know how many RAS volunteers will be there.

Belmead Skywatch, June 30:  Skywatch at Belmead on the James / Thomas Berry Educational Center.  RAS will deploy astronomers and telescopes for the event and there will be an indoor introductory session prior to the observing session.  This is an easily accessible dark sky location with plenty of parking adjacent to the observing site.  Please contact Jim Browder at president@richastro.org if you can help with this event.  More information about the Thomas Berry Educational Center and their stargazing program at these links:

Next RAS meeting, July 10: Please join us if you can or the meeting at the Science Museum of Virginia at 7:30 PM. A number of us also gather before the meeting at Arby’s across the street from the Museum about 6:00 PM.

Virginia Association of Astronomical Societies Annual Meeting, September 15: Save the date! This year’s VAAS meeting will be held at the Heart of Virginia Scout Reservation which has dark skies, convenient location and great facilities. If you can help with this event or if you have suggestions for speakers, please contact Betty Wilson at blpwilson@aol.com.
