RAS presents STEM Fair awards

Here’s an interesting idea–to avoid radiation danger to astronauts during space travel, shield them by scooping out a hole in an asteroid and place them in there. That’s exactly the point of Naren Kasinath’s science fair project this year. Every year, RAS (Richmond Astronomical Society) seeks out projects just like this, and others that relate to astronomy and space science.
RAS makes monetary awards at the Richmond STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Fair, and this year we handed out $200 to the following students:
  • $100 to Naren Kasinath, Efficiency of C-Type Asteroids as a Means of Shielding Against Ionizing Radiation During Interplanetary Tavel
  • $50 to Medha Majety, The Effect of Varying Surface Gravity on the Number of In-falling Virtual Particle Pairs Near the Vicinity of the Event Horizon into a Singularity
  • $50 to Aislinn Craig, The Effect of the Use of a UHC LPR Filter on the Visibility of Objects in Space
