Please join the Richmond Astronomical Society to Observe the Transit of Venus on June 5, 2012!____________ RAS astronomers will have safely filtered telescopes deployed in front of the Science Museum of Virginia on June 5 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM to provide visitors with excellent views of the transit of Venus across the face of the sun (weather permitting, of course). Please join us if you can. The Science Museum will be selling eclipse glasses for viewing the transit. If you plan to view the transit on your own, please be very careful. You should view the sun ONLY through proper filtration. Viewing the sun directly without proper protection can cause damage to your eyes and even blindness. You can learn more about safely viewing the sun at this link and more about the transit itself here. Also, please join us for the next skywatch at the Science Museum of Virginia on May 18 and bring a telescope if you can. The subject of the LiveSky planetarium show will be the transit of Venus. Very timely! With the warmer weather, we should have a good turnout of visitors. Regards, Jim Browder
